Gillette Castle sites in the CT woods perched high above a river. We decided to make a few stops on our drive to Philly from Boston and this was one that was high on my to-do list. The kids LOVED it. They were 3 and...More

We took the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry over for a quick and inexpensive ride. Took an immediate left off the ferry and parked in the large parking area. No signs indicated the hiking path to the castle, but we saw a trail and started up. It's a...More

With perfect weather we toured the castle. Minimal charge to tour house with guides to tell entertaining stories. One kept adding sly comments of how the state was ruining this treasure and the one in the art area didn't speak unless you asked a question....More

Gillette Castle is well worth the experience. A must for Sherlock Holmes fans. The park and grounds are well maintained with many walking/ hiking paths in addition to the castle. There is a charge to tour the castle, but the grounds are free.

Spent a few hours here just walking the grounds since we got her too late to see the inside of the castle but still well worth it. The views are spectacular. Will hopefully go back and see the inside. The grounds are beautiful by themselves....More

Super-cool turn of the century custom home. Hand-carved doors and woodworking. Outside is native stone and mortar. Excellent views of the river and surrounding land, e.g. Seven Sisters. Nice visitor center and snack bar are fairly new. Not a restaurant but decent food and drinks.
