Luhur Batukaru Temple is one of Bali's key directional temples (Bali attractions) and a site of pilgrimage for Hindu Balinese. The Pura Luhur Batukaru lies in solitary clearing 1,300 meters above the sea level, all around the Batukaru temple you'll find a garden of flowering frangipani and hibiscus, with a gigantic, inhabited, humid tropical forest all around it. The impressive placed Batukaru is situated on the slopes of Mount Batukaru since the 11th century, which is an especially sacred site, even by Balinese standards. That's why all visitors have to carefully read and abide the temple rules posted clearly at the entrance.The temple is high on the slopes of the mountain and the often misty, drizzly micro-climate here just adds to its undoubtedly mystical atmosphere. Due to the cool climate and high rainfall (has the highest rainfall on Bali), the shrines in this temple are covered by moss

Check out if you have time to kill

I came here, via private driver, on a Tuesday in mid-December 2022. The Temple is beautiful and the man-made koi pond is next but there are more unique temples in Bali, in my opinion. You should check it out if you're in the area or have some time to kill. If you're short on time in Bali then your time may be better spent somewhere else.

Apparently this Temple is pretty important and locals from all over Bali visit. I spent a total of 10 minutes walking around the facility. It's very small. They charge you an entrance fee so make sure you bring cash. Also, the entrance fee includes a sarong for you to borrow.

This temple is the oldest temple that we have visted in Bali. somepart of the temple was made from 13th century. this is best choice for you who want to see real of Balinese temple and get away from hustle of the city life.

First time here with many trees with a cool atmosphere, there is a small lake with lots of fish, a soothing holy place

some people call Bali the island of a thousand temples, one of them is Batukau temple. A very unique temple, giving a different atmosphere from the other temples that exist in Bali. I love it ❤️❤️❤️

In a beautiful area but the 40.000 entrance free is a rip off

We enjoyed the drive to this place a lot as the area is wonderful. However, we found the temple itself very dissappointing. After paying 40.000 entrance fee, we realized that there is literally nothing to see for us there. As foreigners, we can't enter any of the so called holy areas and besides, there is nothing. We felt totally ripped off.
The only nice thing is the entrance gate, but a picture of that can be taken from the parking without actually entering.
I recommend the drive there, have a look from the outside, but do not buy a ticket.

Different sort of temple

It's a Bali temple worth seeing as it has a different look and feel to others. Being set in the forest and a long way from the tourist throngs it's quieter and peaceful. At the time of visiting, however, all access into the temple area was barred with signs "Do Not Enter. For Prayers Only" (in English, of course, as it's assumed all non-Balinese understand English).

Beautiful temple

This is the second time we have visited this temple, we also came last year. It is set in a stunning location at the base of a mountain and is so peaceful to walk around. It doesn’t get a lot of visitors as it is a little bit off the main track, but is well worth the effort.

At the base of the mountain, an ancient temple with stunning views and a peaceful aura. To enter some places bring an offering and make a prayer.

Large major temple in the rain forest

An impressive temple one of 6 major ones on Bali. Clearly worth the visit. Nice scenery of the lake. The temple buildings are also very amazing,especially the gates. Notice kids needs to start getting permanent tooth’s to visit the actual temple. Entrance fee is 20000 rupiah.
Surprisingly this temple does not have many tourist visiting.

Batukaru Temple is on Gunning Batukaru. The drive there is through traditional villages, lovely rice paddies and forest.
