This breathtaking hike can be done in a day: 3.5 miles one way that takes hikers from 9,900 feet to over 12,200 feet, with many steep switchbacks, waterfalls and sweeping views along the way.

The hike was beautiful the whole way. So many interesting sights from the wooded trail to the mineral deposits in the streams that make them shine, and finally to the amazing lake! We hiked this in October when there was snow. I want to return...More

I'm writing this review kind of late...but coming to CO for 3 years in row to hike during summer is always a breathtaking experience. Literally, I don't do well in high altitude. Every hike is different and unique and beautiful in its own ways. Getting...More

We tent camped at the trail head for an early AM start. The trail had several stream crossings and flower filled open meadows in August. The highlight is aqua, turquoise Ice Lake.

I have never done a real hike like this. It was difficult but absolutely beautiful. I read the best time of year to go is early August because that's when the wild flowers are best. And that did not disappoint. The colors of the water...More

A good friend and long time Colorado resident calls this the best hike in Colorado--and he may be right. The 3-4 hour hike up to lower Ice Lakes past a great waterfall is wonderful. Lower Ice Lakes is a cirque with a nice lake and...More

This hike is tough but you are rewarded by such beautiful sceenary you forget the difficulty. Just make sure you start early to avoid the afternoon showers so popular in the summertime.

Starting out getting our feet soaked in a waterfall wasn't a great start, but luckily I brought an extra pair of socks. The trail through the forest was nice and leisurely, but the incline up to the actual lake was very snowy and a bit...More

Can't miss it. THe only choice is whether to start at the bottom on the left or the right side of the entrance canyon. The left is easier if you're taking the full hike. You can drive part way up the right (east) side... More
