Literally breathtaking in that the climb up the stairs reaching the actual lookout site is lengthy and steep. Metaphorically breathtaking in that the vistas are spectacular from this little lookout building. The meadow below is a nice place to have a picnic before those stairs.

This hike is totally worth it. The tower on the top is something you can't find anywhere else and the view is amazing. It's an easy less than 3 miles hike, great for families with kids and dogs. This makes it a little bit crowded...More

Nice long trail w/many opportunities to rock climb along the way. Easy enough trail but very long and ascending. When you get to the top, you have the option to climb the narrow 100+ stairs to the forest service's fire lookout tower. There's a forest...More

A must hike. A 3 mile round trip from the parking area. It's a moderate hike to the lookout, but well worth it. Dogs on leash allowed. Billy is the Forest Service lookout and has been doing it for 33 years. He has some great...More

Don't under estimate this hike. Wear good shoes and bring water and a snack. My friends used hiking/walking sticks and they've done it in the hundreds of times. This is a place where you have to pack in and pack out. Composting toilets. Not smelly,...More

Highly recommend the hike to see the amazing views at the top. Some of it is quite steep so wear the right shoes and bring a water bottle!

From the one lane roads getting there to the incredible views and steep climb to the fire lookout, this place is amazing. Our family went there on a visit to Colorado for my husband's 41st birthday and absolutely loved it.

Fun family adventure hike. It's a long 10 miles of dirt road and switchbacks to the Devils Head Trailhead. We took our time as we have a very low car. We came on 4 of July so there was minimal traffic. But I hear it's...More

Just finished the hike today - definitely not stroller friendly. Lots of steep switchbacks (not very flat) with rocks and other objects to step over.

The trail was open last week and I believe will stay open until Rampart Range closes Dec 1, but I don't think the fire tower at the top is open after mid September.

From Castle Rock you need to get on South Rampart Range Road, so depending on where you live, there are a couple ways you can access Rampart Range Road. I take Perry Park Road (105) to Jackson Creek Road. I follow Jackson... More
