Interesting mining town. You can walk thru and explore the homes the people lived in. You can see where they mined.

We went on a beautiful sunny fall day. I highly recommend travelling on this road only when the road is dry and you really should have a high clearance vehicle. Most of the road was easy to drive on, but there were a few sketchy...More

We had a rental ( Jeep Compass) and made it fine to Animas Forks- the drive is slow but beautiful- the buildings left are in great condition and we had a great time walking through them-

We visited during an off-road trip, touring the passes of San Juan Mts. The weather was perfect, the scenery was fantastic.

This is a short drive from Ouray and should be done in an SUV, Jeep or Truck due to some trails you may want to explore. This is near the Alpine Loop and offers beautiful outdoor mountain views.

Rough ride in the 2016 Cherokee but road is passable. BEAUTIFUL scenery in and out. The Aspens were not changing a lot there but worth the trip.

Interesting history at this old mining town. One of the best preserved mining towns we have seen. Great place to stop for a restroom break after being on the Alpine Loop.

I agree with Wayne C. Animas Forks is a historical sight, a cluster of mining camp ruins, a place to park your 4-wheel drive vehicle and use the primitive restroom facilities. Your closest airports are Montrose, Durango... More
