So, I'm embarrassed to say that we've lived in the area for over 40years and this is the first time that we've hiked the trail. Shame on us. But so glad we took the trail. First off, I'm sure that in the summer and on weekends that the trail is crazy-busy. We went on a Thursday afternoon in mid-November and encountered only a handful of other hikers. Now, the trail. It's a fairly level trail going in and out of the forest. It's quite lovely actually. And Monument Rock - spectacular. It's just standing out there all on its own. Quite a piece of sandstone. The trail goes near the US Forest Service work center and heliport. They really don't want you in there. Lots of 'Keep Out' signs. There was a helicopter taking off as we hiked by. Fun. The area was a tree nursery back in the CCC days. You can tell. there are multiple very straight rows of trees that they didn't transplant and just grew up. Go on Google maps and get an aerial view. Fun. The only complaint at all is the the trail is quite poorly marked. It's pretty hard to get very lost. But at times we weren't sure which way to go. Nice afternoon walk.…

You can make this short or long based on where you park. If you park closer it is nice for little kids. They can hike a little, climb a little on Monument Rock, and have some fun. I think it is a nice hike. I have done both short and longer and enjoyed both.

We moved to monument 3 years ago from Colorado Springs. We were looking for something to do and this just filled that spot in. We love going here as a family.

Just west of Monument is the Monument Rock Trail. It is easy to get to, although on busy weekends parking can be a challenge. It offers a lot of trails that wind through the park. The loop up to Monument Rock and by the pond is stunning, especially in the spring and summer. Trails can be icy and hard to navigate in the winter as some of the trails are pretty rutted. If you go to the southern trails it will take you through lots of wooded trails and along a nice meadow that has some jumps for horses. The northern set of trails can lead you near the road and lots of woods or go the middle trails for more sunny, open meadows. There is an old root cellar and destroyed house there and the firefighter work out area as well. Some people let their dogs off-leash so be aware of that.…

Nice outing for grandparent and grandkids. Burn some calories and let the kids burn energy. Easy trails made for a pleasant outing.
