The Museum isn't advertised where it is located very well, but it is well worth the time. LOADS of historical items, some buildings, artifacts, information about the area and remembrances of an era gone by. Being a history buff - I loved it! Very low admittance fee and friendly personnel.

Highly recommended to see a great collection of artifacts, photos, displays, etc. of pioneer days in La Veta and surrounding towns.

There is an excellent library adjacent to the Museum and lots of thrift and specialty shops as well.

Unassuming from the street, Francisco Fort Museum is a surprising collection of historical and cultural items from La Veta and the region. A visit here is a very good way to orient yourself to the area before exploring more extensively.

While this museum was interesting to visit, it was mostly a bunch of antiques from different times and locations, which were not necessarily related to the trading post itself. Worth a visit none the less.

We had been to this museum years ago but came back to get more details for the Alexanders and Reads. Nancy was so knowledgeable and helpful. We will have more than family stories to tell our grandchildren about our Georgia colony ancestors.

The Francisco Fort is an incredible place to visit. You walk back into history as you enter the adobe building and experience the fort as it was over a hundred years ago. The other attractions...the school house, blacksmith shop, saloon, coal mining building...were filled with very interesting artifacts from days gone by. If you're in south central Colorado, the Fransisco... More

Besides the great programs they have here during the summer, the old adobe museum is a treasure trove of historical items from the area. Don't miss out!

I'm sure we would have enjoyed the museum if it had been open. The information on their web site said they were open through the month on September. However when we got there the sign on the door said "closed for the season". We inquired next door at the library and were told they closed after Labor Day due to... More
