Google Maps suggested route as we headed west to I-70 from Rocky Mountain National Park. Unpaved from Kremmling to State Bridge (below Bond) worried me, but day was clear and it was fine. ("Gravel" is actually packed dirt with periodic ruts and small potholes, but no washboards. 30-35 MPH was my average speed. Very few other cars/trucks on road.) As... More

We drove the Trough road/CR1 outside of Kremmling. Most of the drive is gravel, but there is one paved stretch. The road was maintained and fine. There is a scenic over look at the railroad and a Moffat tunnel with an explanation display. We are going fly fishing at the pump house as it had been recommended by the local... More

I drove the Trough Road from Kremmling and State Road today. I have a low slung sports car so was a bit worried about the dirt road but the only problem I had was I did not want to go the 40 MPH speed limit so kept getting passed by pickup trucks pulling boat trailers. I turned in at the... More

As a local, this is one of my favorite places hiking, camping, fishing, and rafting. Beautiful views I've seen Elk and Deer herds along with Bighorn sheep. It's also a shortcut to Hwy 131 and Wolcott if I'm headed west to Glenwood. If your headed west make sure you have enough fuel to make to the first gas station in... More

The roadway itself was in very good condition. There are many scenic pull-offs. Some views are absolutely stunning. We will go back.

We were pleasantly surprised this road was as smooth as it was since it was mostly gravel. We stopped multiple times to check out the views and people floating down the Colorado River. There are very few guardrails but it seemed safe and was a good drive.

We stumbled across this by accident on our way from Glenwood Springs to Estes Park. The views of the Colorado River and the surrounding area were very nice. We were a bit surprised that a large portion of this was gravel, but we didn't mind. We would definitely take this route again. Take a picnic lunch and stop in by... More

The drive is spectacular. Take a camera and plan to stop often for magnificent vistas. When you reach Kremmling, it will be obvious, that despite the tourist aspect, this is a hardworking town. As you take advantage of the tourist attractions, it is easily apparent that you are surrounded by people who are serious about taking care of the land... More
