Description:

The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor...

The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. This is a ride to remember! The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for kids of all ages.

we were treated to an historic ride round trip from Georgetown station to Silverthorne station and the scenic trip was exhilarating. At the end, they provided a box of chocolates (made in Georgetown) and a rose for the Mothers Day Special. The weather was perfect and the ride was worth every cent.

We bought passage in the Parlor Car for half-price through a "groupon type" website. It was enjoyable for a little excursion, but unfortunately the fumes from the diesel engine on the first half of the ride really made both of us a little queasy. If I had paid full price, I would have been disappointed, but at 50% off, it... More

I had a free day in Denver, so drove up to visit Georgetown again and decided to ride the train. The website includes pictures showing completely open cars, which was a draw for me as I wanted to take lots of photos. Well, there was the advertised parlor car, a couple of the enclosed (roof and windows) cars and then... More

We had the best time on the Georgetown railroad! Fun for all ages. It's a beautiful train and you get a birds eye view of the mountains and the river below. We also did the mine tour, that was very interesting. JR was our guide and he was great, we learned a lot about the history of the mine and... More

I took my two grandsons to the Georgetown Loop Railroad on May 13th. The train was an old "sidewinder" steam engine with exposed push rods and a coal fired stream engine on a narrow gauge railroad. Very well maintained and in excellent shape. You can ride in a parlor car or a coach car. We went on the parlor car... More

The Georgetown Loop Historic railroad is a wonderful experience! Our family has traveled the loop on multiple special occasions and seasons. We have never been disappointed with the friendliness of staff, efficiency of ticketing and boarding, and each of the special occasion offerings of the trips that make it unique. Hear the whistle blowing!

This is the lower terminal of the railroad. Even if you do not to ride the train, this is the place to watch, photograph or video the train go around the loop. On the return ride to this depot the train stops on the bridge before finishing the loop back to the depot. If riding the bridge is a good... More

Drove out from Denver (one hour drive) to visit Georgetown. The Georgetown Loop Historic Railroad is the main tourist attraction here. We bought the basic train ride (not the superior carriage) plus the standard Lebanon Silver Mine tour and that cost just under $35 each (including a discount coupon from the Georgetown tourist centre). The train leaves from Devils Gate... More

We rode the train in early May, shoulder season for the trees I'd guess. The trees were not in their full beauty, however this was a fun activity. The ride is relatively short and the history lesson was too. I wish there had been more information on the way out instead of just back. Small children will love this train.
