Anytime there is a nice day during the winter, we try to find a way to head outside. This February has been full of 50-60 degree weather so we've taken advantage by doing some of our favorite outdoor activities. One of our favorites is Castlewood Canyon State Park. From the paved loop just down from the parking lot to the... More

Love this place. If you like to hike or walk this is a great place to do it. Beautiful views into the canyon. Like to get together with your family.and friends? You can enjoy the picnic tables. Take in the special events the Canyon has. Enjoy it all.

I decided to bring my boyfriend home with me this year who has never been to Elizabeth or Colorado really. So I asked him where his favorite spot was that we visited and this was it. It's quiet, peaceful and not over run by people. I've loved this place since I was a kid. The best part is, it never... More

We visited on Dec 30th. There was still snow in the shaded areas of the canyon and ice on the trail, but still manageable to hike. The East Facility area has a well paved trail if you have strollers or wheelchairs. The West Facility area was the best for varied levels of hiking and rock climbing, but not good at... More

I call this "hidden" but it is not hidden to folks that live in the south Denver metro. It's a wonderful place to go for a nice leisurely walk or, for the more adventurous, do some rock climbing. My family and I love to go see the birds of prey. (Or try to anyway!) Peak summer weekends are too crowded... More

This little State park is easy to access off Hwy 83 south of Franktown. Rimrock trails skirt the edge of a rocky cleft and one leads down into it, where the trail follows a rushing stream. In the springtime the water is high, in the fall in early October, the colors of the scrub oak and blue sky make a... More

Visited frequently, this state park offers different trails. You can view all online the State Park Website. Our family has done at least 4 of them ranging from intermediate to advanced during different outings. For the non-walker there are low grade trails also. Good photo and video oportunities. Pet owners are offered pooch friendly poop bags and many walkers bring... More
