Awesome property!

My sister and I love historic properties, and despite the buildings not being open to go inside due to COVID, we still thoroughly enjoyed the signage outdoors explaining the rooms we were peeking into around the entire perimeter! Somehow we missed the front entrance until the end :) but were very pleased with the explanations we received to enhance what we’d read. The Stone House, built as a playhouse for Eric Douglas’ 3 adopted children, was also amazing. Sure wish COVID hadn’t hit. This is still a spot not to miss!

Lovely Historical Museum
Aug 2019
We visited in summer with our grandsons who were 4 & 5 years old. We were given a half hour tour of the main residence. It was just long enough for their attention span. We also toured the grounds and in one of the structures they have some art supplies set up for budding young and old artists.

This is something not to miss when in Evergreen...and, it's a tour that's free of charge. The homestead of a pioneer who owned most of the land in the Evergreen area.

Excellent tour

We very much enjoyed our tour of the Hiwan Homestead Museum. Our guide, Megan, gave us an interesting and informative tour. We learned so much about the house and the families that lived there. The house was well taken care of and had many pieces from the original family.

This is certainly worth a stop; I was fascinated by the history of the settling of Colorado and this area.

Took the 4th graders here and they enjoyed it. They couldn't believe how things worked back then and the cost of items. I would have liked to see all of the other buildings we didn't get to see but it was a fun trip@

Gotta visit this museum!
May 2018 • Couples
The Hiwan Homestead is more than just a little museum. There are displays about the history of Evergreen, and about the family that owned the home. It is also a living museum - there are days where the historic kitchen is used to make refreshments for visitors, school classes meet in the old 'classroom' for a lesson, and more. They sponsor activities, talks, and presentations on a variety of history and art topics.
Another fun offering is children's birthday parties. My daughter's party made jelly and biscuits in the kitchen, had a tour, and then of course cake.
The setting of the homestead is very pleasant on a hillside with woods and a little trail. The visit is free, but they appreciate donations.

Hidden gem
Jul 2018 • Family
Was not expecting much but Rosemary the volunteer guide gave us a great tour @ 45 mins. The structures and exhibits give you a good insight into late 1800's-early 1900.
