Grew up around the Animas and fished here as a boy in the 70s. I can't say enough about this jewel of the Rockies, the Rainbow Trout and memories it still evokes.

Walking, jogging, biking, dog walking, impromptu guitar concert, watching the fly fisher or the fish, a walk along the Animas River through downtown or out to the dog park, you'll have a great time. The trail is about 7 miles total and offers access to local business, a refreshment stop or Serious Texas BBQ. Newly refreshed a year or so... More

It winds through the canyon from Silverton to Durango and then through the town of Durango. It is clear with many twists and turns so that there is always a surprise around each corner. You can travel it by kayak or white water raft. It is peaceful in some parts and quite turbulent in others. There are a number of... More

I personally have not taken a kayak ride down the Animas River but while hiking along it I have watched people float along the river. Have also seen rubber rafts taking visitors down the river. It seems to be a popular water sports area. It is a beautiful river that is always clear and clean when we have visited. I... More

This river ran right outside of our hotel (The Double Tree in Durango Co.) The areas surrounding the River and the River itself are breathtaking. Walk along the river and picnic on the banks and take in the piney scent and fresh air that is Colorado!

Animas River my not have the widest and most dangerous white water rafting, but it is perfect for most of the family. When floating take in all of the natural beauty and listen as nature sings her sweet song to you.
