Visited Purgatory with 14 old friends from the the 1970's. Great place to have a green chili burger drink a beer and enjoy the beautiful mountains. The Alpine Slide was fun for all ages. The Scenic Chairlift ride was beautiful.More

I would like to stay Ski In /Ski Out. Mostly staying just on the mtn, we would want to take a shuttle to Grocery store & a night out for dinner. Is this feasible without a car? or should i get a rental car? Wasn't sure how much it would be worth it to have a rental if it will be in a paid parking lot whole time, esp if we want to use a shuttle to eat in Durango

It's a 30min drive to town. Waiting on a shuttle might be even longer. I'd get a car. Parking was free during ski times, so not sure if you have to pay to stay on the mountain.

Another question is, can we bring our own tubes or do we have to rent tubes at Purgatory?

You can't tube on their hill. You have to rent their tubes. There are plenty of hills to tube on but not on the hill that they plow for their tubes.

How do you get around the mountain without using ski lifts? Also are there places to tube rather than skiing or snowboarding!
