Many of the original buildings constructed and used by the area's pioneers can be found in this interesting and charming section of town that includes the grand Strater Hotel, built in 1887 and still in operation today, plus the world famous Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. You'll find unique shops, amazing restaurants for all budgets, and plenty of events year round in Historic Downtown Durango.

A relic from a bygone era. It seems everyone is very happy living in Durango because they all are very nice and seem to have a smooth interlace with their city. A lot of history still there amidst the modern shops and restaurants with the...More

Really cute downtown. It felt very safe and clean. Good restaurants and shops. Really cool historical hotels with friendly staff that will show you around if you ask. Fun times!

If your idea of fun is walking around going into nice shops and tacky shops this is a good place for you. Only stayed here because of the railroad. Way to much congestion

Great old western town. Several original old west buildings still stand, such as the Strater Hotel. Stage coaches were spotted traveling down Main Street. Seems like always something going on in town.

Great town for wandering around, shopping, eating, etc. we strolled around town from about 6:00-8:30 and it was beautiful. Most shops close at 8:00 or were already closed. The bars/restaurants seemed to be open much later. *Eat at Grass Burger - yummy and not too...More

Summer is our busy time, but there is always fun stuff to do in Downtown Durango. They say that we have more restaurants per capita than San Francisco, but who's counting? Thanks for visiting!

We were there when the Colorado Bike Tour was in town. A bandshell was set up near the train station and great free live music was playing. Food vendors were also present. A lively and vibrant downtown

We will be in Durango February 27th (the only day that fits into our vacation schedule)! We were looking forward to doing the silverton train ride but unfortunately it only runs Thursday - Saturday. I have a 6yo and 14yo so I'm wondering what else other than walking through downtown could I do to keep them entertained? Is there another train ride of some type?
