The canvas was his ally. The paint and the trowel were his weapons. And the Art World was his enemy. Discover an American Master at the Clyfford Still Museum, home to the world's most intact public collection of a major American artist. From October 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the Clyfford Still Museum will display more than 260 of Clyfford Still's works on paper in the Museum's largest exhibition to date. With very few exceptions, paintings will not be on view in the Museum during this time.

Didn't realize the impact that Still had on the Modern era in US. Pollock praised Still for his "leadership". Galleries change every couple of months. Now there is a combined exhibit with Mark Bradford who is displayed in the DAM next door. One ticket gets...More

This place is true jewel: the building itself is a splendid restrained exercise in intelligent lighting and space layout. The paintings of Still are displayed magnificently, there is no other word, just as he would have wanted. And the paintings themselves, which vary frequently by...More

Still was one of the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artist of the post WWII generation. He left New York, and eventually decline to sell or even show much of his work and offered 1000s of paintings to a city that would build a Museum...More

As someone who is a regular museum goer, I can't say enough about the perfect execution of this small museum. I know saying something is a gem is a bit of a cliche but this is really a gem. From Brad Cloephil's concrete building to...More

The museum was free last Friday, so I suggested we start date #2 with a walk-through. There's a quick little 6-minute video overview in the atrium that is super helpful. The building was constructed specifically to show these works, and its exposed concrete is as...More
