The drive from Crested Butte to Paonia passes West Beckwith Mountain, the best spot in the state to view foliage. With 50 square miles of golden aspens.

The majority of the road is packed gravel/dirt and when dry would be OK for motorcycle travel. However, please be sure to check the weather conditions before going on the pass. If they have any rain and the road is wet, it becomes very slippery...More

Go anytime summer or fall to catch all the Aspen in full color! Travel towards a Ohio pass and catch a glimpse of the castle mountains as well as Gorgeous ranches on the way to Gunnison

This was a "business drive" for us to get to Gunnison. I think driving the black from Paonia to Gunnison is more stunning, but they are both wonderful drives.

This drive is wonderful with gorgeous aspens, an almost hidden cemetery, and beautiful Lake Irwin a few miles away. The summer flowers and fall colors are amazing!

We did this pass on the way from Aspen. We saw tons of wildflowers and not very many cars. Biggest vistas anywhere. Breathtaking scenery.

I wouldn't advise the road if it looks like rain, particularly during hail season. It requires patience when passing an on-coming car

Easy drive even if unpaved- and it does cut off a lot, of you are headed to glenwood springs from crested butte.
