Took the family for a day trip to CO museum of prisons. Overall an interesting place, although the kids got a bit restless; lots a displays and historical info to read. Appreciated their participation in the free museum day in association with Smithsonian.

This is a neat little museum to visit. It's interesting to see the old prison and learn about the institution. There is a small gift shop on the premises with crafts made my the inmates. Yes, you read that right.

Very interesting displays in the history of Colorado Prisons, as well as the progression in society's approach to incarceration. There are a lots of graphic displays of homemade prison weaponry and punishment techniques used on prisoners over the years.

This museum is well laid out on 2 levels, so includes a flight of stairs. It has some really interesting exhibits. Would recommend it as a good way to spend an hour or two.

Starts in 1880's. Pictures, Info, parephenalia. Came out realizing there are a lot of evil people in this world and that I never want to be incarcerated. Interesting. Tour took us about 1 1/2 hours to read info without headphone use. Museum sits next to an active prison with razor wire, kind of creepy.

this is a self guided tour of prison cells, contraband, a gas chamber and the interworkings of a prison..it was really interesting, we were there around 2 hours. well worth the entrance fee of $6 , not something you see everyday for sure..

On the advice of a local we went and were not disappointed. You get to walk into the gas chamber room (no longer used) and get an audio tape to listen to as you tour the museum. Cost 7.00, we stayed much longer than thought we would.

It may not be for many of you, but I loved this self-guided tour. The history itself is fascinating. Knowing the struggle men went through to survive here is heartening. Sure makes me thankful for the good life I've been blessed with. Even my wife enjoyed it and that says a lot!
