Edith and Brian Heath moved from Chicago to San Francisco in the early 1940s, and Edith began making ceramics. In 1944, she held a one-woman exhibition, where her work was noticed by Gump's, a respected San Francisco design store. They commissioned her to create an exclusive dinnerware collection, and when retail orders started coming in, the couple founded Heath Ceramics... More

I have been visiting Health Ceramics for many years. They make beautiful pottery. If you've never been to working pottery you might find this interesting. The tour is free. This is a treasure of Sausalito!!

My wife and I were on an extended stay in Sausalito and were looking for a morning activity near our apartment. I had been told of the tour of the Heath Ceramics factory in Sausalito by the staff at their stall in the Ferry Building. Booking was easy and we arrived at the showroom and were met by a wonderful... More

This tour is free, and takes visitors through the factory to see how clay is made into all sorts of ceramic pieces. We watched people at work in their various stations. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The factory store sells first, second, and third quality pieces, all of which are expensive, but beautifully designed and made.

Lovely bright and muted colors. Great canvas bags, framed art and items for children in addition to the high-quality pottery. I love going in just to see all the beautiful colors. I hope to make it back for a tour soon. If you want to go on the tour you should sign up online ahead of time. The tour is... More

Wow, my husband and I loved taking the Heath Ceramics Factory Tour. Alex, our tour guide, did an awesome job of sharing the history of Heath Ceramics, how the ceramic pieces are made, and answering questions from those on the tour. I enjoyed the fact that only 12-15 people are allowed on each tour, which makes learning more about Heath... More

So very very Scandinavian. This little factory tucked away in the boat docks is so refreshing for its design. The colors and quality of the ceramics is superb and thus commands very steep prices. Some things offered here are not online so you get an extra perk of having an exclusive Factory edition.... Tours are given and are interesting but... More

These are beautiful ceramics that come in an array of sizes and colorsz. They mix and match well. It's an American company so you will be shopping local. They are not sold in stores so come here or to the San Francisco store. They even sell coffee and pastries there.

The spare, modern aesthetic of Heath ceramic pottery belies the exacting nature of its manufacture by skilled artisans. Our excellent tour guide revealed the process, as we moved from station to station through the factory. Now I understand why the prices are what they are. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quality products are available in the factory, along with other hand... More

You know, many of these boutique concept shops can feel a little disjointed, Not Heath Ceramics. I think they do a fine job of representing their brand, providing inspitation and reaching beyond their own corner of the world. Interesting gifts, items for the home, incredible ceramics and a cup of coffee. What could be better?!
