This is a great opportunity to see a wooden sailboat being built in the same manner as over a hundred years ago. Take a tour with the very knowledgeable guide and learn all the interesting details. It's a really fascinating experience.

Took 2-11 year old boys and a 9-year old girl here on a weekday for a quick run through (about 45 minutes). In a huge old building on the water. Even kids with short attention spans will find the sheer size and scope of the space interesting and will likely learn something. Free (although I'm sure they appreciate donations).

Order folks to come to this exquisite model of over 3,000 miles of the Greater San Francisco Bay shoreline. A couple of hours will briefly show just how magnificent this area is now. Engineers, children of all ages, fishermen, there is not person I can think of that will not marvel at this exquisite display. Accurate to about one foot,... More

After leaving Napa this was our next stop. It did not disappoint. Interesting exhibit of how the waters flow. Free to public. They do offer an audio tour for $5. We opted for the free self guided. Very interesting and glad we came.

My husband and I are both engineers so naturally we found this attraction to be extremely interesting. It was built back in the day when computer modeling was still a dream and now that computers are a reality, it is used as a tourist attraction and education tool. It explains the science behind the bay in a simplified way that... More

I saw this in a guidebook and thought my tween and teens might like it. They were so excited when I suggested it because it was featured on an episode of Mythbusters. It didn't disappoint. The introduction movie is a must see. The audio guide is interesting too.

This place is great for children on a rainy day. They can observe, learn and run abound a bit. No need to worry about "shushing"

I Googled "What to do in Sausalito" and this popped up. I had never heard of it, despite many visits to the Bay area. It's easy to find, tucked away near the water. Huge, and chilly in the winter (think unheated warehouse) but if you like maps and that sort of thing, you really should visit. The floor where you... More

This facility is awesome. The lobby and lead in areas are beautifully done. So much information and interactive things for kids to take part in. This model is huge, and actually shows how the tides effect the bay, and not just the bay, but all the inland waterways connected to it. It is used to determine how proposed changes will... More
