Just popped in for a quick visit as close to car park. Small but very interesting particularly the proposed route of Freeway through Sausalito which residents successfully fought . Would I go back ? Probably not as I have done it now but it was...More

The visitors center is average. Sausalito itself is a wonderful, quaint town, and we very much enjoyed it. You can explore it easily on your own without the visitors center.

We felt very welcome in the visitor center, and the receptionist explained to us how to get around. There is not much to do around the city, but walk around the main avenue between shops and restaurants. She also suggested going to the Boat houses,...More

Sausalito is a pretty town just on the other side of Golden Gate Bridge with a wonderful walkway along the water and outstanding views of San Francisco, Alcatraz, and the Bay Bridge. Lots of nice shops and eateries. Lots of places to just stroll--beautifully maintained...More

We were very disappointed with Sausalito. We rode bikes over and could not believe they charge to park bikes. How sad!! We visited a lot of towns on our vacation and most didn't even charge for car parking.

We stopped in the visitors center to grab a map because we could not figure out how to get to the lighthouse. They had maps on several National Parks and the local area which were very helpful and a sweet woman who was giving directions.

This is a small/tiny museum but it is packed with history and well worth a 15 minute aside. Blink and you will miss it.

You would be better off renting bicycles and riding across the bridge. The bridge is no short walk. Then you would still need to walk further to get to Sausilito and then have the energy to walk around and enjoy yourself and... More
