Lovely sandy beach with plenty of space. Parking near the pier for $13. Lots of homeless people around but they are not bothering anyone.

Santa Monica pier is a tourists area . The beach is beautiful but otherwise there is nothing to do . The stores are mostly for souvenir places with high prices.

Beautiful sights and beaches. Hire a bicycle and cycle along the coast....perfectly laid out cycletracks which are widely used by residents and tourists. Pier was lovely and the food at the restaurant at the end of the pier was lovely and well priced.

I just had to see the famous wheel from a lot of movies. Other than that it's a very nice place to walk, to meditate next to the ocean. And there are a lot of good hotels if you looking for 5-star comfort.

Had a nice time with family here. The view is amazing, exactly what you can expect from California, especially the land escape. The beach is massive with many attrition and wonderful food outlets along the pier. I recommend that you plan to spend all day...More

Santa Monica is fabulous. The pier consists of a small aquarium of local sealife. There are various street performers, eaters, an arcade and rides. Good family fun.

Ahhh, bring a towel and some sunscreen. There are cafe/rental type places called Perry's along the way to rent equipment like chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, bikes, etc. Enjoy!!

The Santa Monica pier and beach was beautiful. Such a iconic pier with the rides and carnival feel. Lots of live music and views of the beach.

The Santa Monica's beach is a wonderful place. You can see the beautiful landscape there, walk and observe the beach. There are a lot of excelent restaurants and you can eat a delicious seafood or walk on the 66 trail . Enjoy it!

Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a
balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a
thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers,
roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the
famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles
weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa
Monica pier spins high above the water, while park
revelers scream with delight riding the roller

Will be staying in Santa Monica for 4 days. , not much time, hollywood one day and would like to drive the coast another but not be on the car all day. What would be a good destination to enjoy the PCH views with breakfast of the ocean, and end up on a beach.

Drive to Laguna Beach. You can take PCH there. It's a beautiful drive and really cool beach. It's artsy with lots of boutique shops if you're into that. Otherwise you can go to Newport Beach which is bigger and more... More

I didn't see any free parking, but I didn't think it was bad to pay $5-$10 to park in a parking lot that's right on the beach. I saw at least 4 along the strip of water between the Venice Beach pier and the Santa Monica pier.
Apart from the beach itself, what is there to do activity wise? its our first time to the states and we have a car rental and would love to spend the day at santa monica but we are control freaks and want to have a firm idea of what things rhere are to do /see for the day - any suggestions on what we must see/do or eat? thanks :)
