Wonderful place to take a walk and to chill by the sea. A lot of gift shops and singers to stop and listen. Also good food at the restaurants on the pier. One of the most beautiful Piers I have been to.

This is where Route 66 finishes and the beach begins. We visited the pier after lunch and there were not many people around. When we walked by later in the day people were turning up in droves for Pacific Park amusements. There were various buskers on the pier which were entertaining. Great views looking back across the beach to LA... More

It was nice to walk along the pier, good views along the beach a back to the hills. Along the pier there are buskers and performers, some of them were quite good. There are the usual stalls and amusement arcades with a few places to get food.

While staying in LA for a long weekend we drove to Santa Monica for the afternoon and it was just beautiful! We walked along the beach sidewalk and then down to the famous Pier. It was so relaxing to sit on the steps and look at the water. There is plenty to see and lots of eating spots too.

Don't go on your own. try the carrousel it was in the sting movie. we had cod n chips and a bear, looked around the old time amusements. All in all we loved this place, reminded us of the 60s in the UK.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
