A popular tourist stop, this 207 acre complex houses a library, art collection and stunning gardens. The library and art gallery contain rare books and one of the most complete collections of 18th century art outside of London.

I only have got as far as the botanic gardens but so far I have visited twice. The ambiance of the place is like a world exploration. It has jungle, desert, woodland, lakes and hill. Each place attracts different wild life. This is a great...More

Our visit was to see the Tiffany exhibit but touring around to see just some of the other exhibits was wonderful. There were some Bertoia sculptures that were very unlike his typical work and amazing to see. The collection of arts and crafts and Frank...More

The gardens are well worth your time and cost of the visit as a nature photographer. This short review covers only the two Asian (Chinese and Japanese) gardens, which is a subset of all botanical gardens in Huntington Library. There is a gap close to...More

You can enjoy Huntington Library year-round. My favorite time is when the rose gardens are in bloom, but there are attractions that are to be enjoyed no matter what the season. The cactus garden is like an alien landscape, not to be missed. We enjoy...More

I would expect the first week of December to be very pleasant. Rain is a possibility, but the variety of gardens and the indoor art and library collections make it a great place any time of year.

Not to sit on the grass, but there are plenty of tables for you to sit at in multiple gardens. I did see some people sitting down but no real picnic baskets.
