This beautiful mission is the only one on the entire El Camino Real that has continued holding masses ever since its establishment. For a small donation visitors can stroll literally into another era. Stop and kneel in the silence of the chapel. The frescoes have...More

I'll be honest. I primarily came here to see the setting for Hitchock's Vertigo. I hadn't realized that the mission steeple was fabricated for the movie - a recreation of the original that had burned earlier in the century. Notwithstanding that small disappointment, the mission...More

We arrived in a day with several school groups including some special needs students. It was refreshing to see the sense of excitement and curiosity among all the students. As long as one times their restroom visits around the school groups there is no problem...More

The most amazing place to visit. Loved the antique shops, the restaurants, visiting the oldest church & ruines. Could easily live there 😀

This is the largest and I think the best preserved of the Spanish California Missions. I have visited here many times in the past but it never disappoints. If you are interested in California history, this mission, like the other missions, will bring much history...More

We found the mission well maintained. Enjoyed walking around the different areas and buildings. The mission staff that we saw were friendly and helpful. Would recommend at least an hour to tour, probably two hours would be best. Short walk from the shops and restuarants.

Visit for the atmosphere of the service at the only continually serving Mission in California. We loved the interior and the active, family filled, congregation

I have gradually been visiting the original, still-intact Missions in CA and this one is one of the best. Meticulously maintained, with hotels, residences, stables and other historical buildings still intact. The small "downtown" has a choice of very good restaurants and shops. Very quaint...More

This was our 14th mission stop on the trip and I must say Mission San Juan Bautista was near the top we saw. We spent several hours enjoying the museum and grounds. Two bus loads of 4th graders were unloading on field trip and they...More
