A very well designed museum, this place does exactly what it purports to do; give the history of a very historic city! From the early days of Sutter's Fort, through the Gold Rush, and into California Statehood, this museum gives you the details of what happened, who was involved, and how it came about. If you have any interest in... More

This museum specializes in Gold Rush Days, Early printing, and farm machinery. Everything is well displayed and there are some nice hands on activities for children.

I've been by the outside of this place dozens of times but never went in until we purchased a museum membership with benefits that allowed us to wander through for free. I would say it's worth the reasonable fee they charge to check it out. It's laid out in an interesting manner. The exhibits seem geared toward kids who are... More

I love this museum. I've been there 3 times in less than 2 years. I love it because it displays many eras of history, reminders of my childhood and long before then. There is so much to see in the form of REAL life articles that people have donated, so it's not just a lot of reading. They have interactive... More

This is a nice Museum. We learned so much about the art on fruit packing boxes! It really is quite lovely and the museum is interesting and educational. The native Indian basket display is just lovely. We spent about an hour there and had a nice time. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Will visit again.

I enjoyed learning the history of Sacramento, the Gold Rush era, and how important the rivers are to the past, present and future of the area.

We spent a couple of hours here and enjoyed learning about the history of Sacramento. The displays are very well done and represent the variety of cultures that made Sacramento what it is. My only suggestion would be that an introductory video would have been helpful.

Traveling from the east coast we hoped to catch a glimpse of Old Sacramento which was great to see some above ground but we were hoping for some underground perspective of what it as like before the city was lifted. Wish we had more time to see it all. Tremendous history here.

With only one day in town we walked through old town. This museum provides a history of the city focusing on the gold rush but also highlighting other demensions of the city inclduding the decison to revitalize the old town area (perviously pretty seedy)
