For an urban trail it gets 5 stars

20 miles one way. Bike along the Sacramento river from OldTown to Lake Natoma, and then do an extra 20 mile loop around the lake. I'm not a trail rider, but this one gets a 5!

My husband and I must have been riding in a different area than the other people who reviewed this trail. We rented bicycles in Old Town and attempted to ride the trail north. The trail was mostly deserted and Discovery Park had recently flooded, so there were no tourists or cyclists anywhere. What there was, however, was tents and homeless... More

This is one of the best bike trails anywhere, roughly 25 miles from downtown Sacramento to Folsom with only a few street crossings. There are some great views of the American River along the route. It is essentially flat most of the way to Folsom and so you can go whatever distance suits you. It does have a 15 mph... More

I have been riding the bike trail for years and years. It's where I love to go to unwind. I'm not one of the speed riders...I'm more the leisurely rider who takes his time. My only caution would be to be careful if you ever decide to venture away from the beaten path as I have many a time encountered... More

We had a great time on the bike trail we road about 11 miles. The tail is very nice but also watch out for the homles that lives there. Do not get off the trail. They have there camps all over make sure you have someone with you. I would not ride by my self

The Parkway is beautiful and full of warm happy families as well as athletes. If you run or bike you won't find a more beautiful place. There is lots of nature and water, I just can't say enough.

Sacramento has several rivers, this is one. It is great for walking, riding a bike, having a picnic, a date, or for getting your exercise. Others spend the day along its many beaches. The American River gets popular in the summer months with people using their rafts. The river is historically native to indigenous peoples and is marked by signs... More

The American River Bike Trail provides those of us in the region with a slice of Eden as it winds through oak forests and pleasant meadows. There is always wildlife to be seen, from coyotes to red-tailed hawks to deer to rabbits to herons, to salmon, etc. Nature provides constant surprises, whether you're biking or walking. Currently the river has... More

This is great bicycle trail system. There are miles of trail, lots of great scenery and lots of parks and open space to stop at on the way. This very safe place to ride away from trafic. Parts of the are not accessible in the winter.

Experience the natural beauty of 30+ miles of bicycle trail along the American River. The trail is accessible from different entry points along the way. During all seasons, you will see different vegetation and wildlife. Near Hazel Avenue is the fish hatchery. Some of the trail is flat or gently rolling, and the ride gets challenging as Folsom Lake is... More
