Wonderful hike

An hour from Sacramento, the hike offers elevation, a beautiful evergreen forest, plenty of granite, and beautiful lakes. What more is needed?

A summertime hike. Do it as a day hike or take Some gear and spend some time. Steep going in from Big Bend/Rainbow tavern, but not far. Small, scenic lakes.

I have backpacked this trail with the Boy Scouts. If you are not in good condition, don't try it. Beautiful High Sierra scenery, multiple Alpine lakes, not very crowded.

When told to “Take a hike” and “go jump in a lake”, I will gladly get off your nerves and go away. Needing to go away on a late summer afternoon, I took that hike and jumped in that lake on the Loch Leven Lakes trail. The hike is an 8 mile (12.9 km) round-trip, climbing 1,100 feet of elevation,... Hiked to Middle Loch Leven Lake. We are generally fast hikers, so it took 90 minutes there and a little less back. Had a lovely lunch stop at the lake. This is NOT near Sacramento, closer to Truckee or Soda Springs. Definitely has some climbing, but worth it to reach the lakes. Lots of hikers going both directions.

Gorgeous Tahoe hike leading back to three lakes. Very well traveled, but there are some lesser visited back-routes. A great place spring through fall. Fun in Winter with snow shoes.

One of my favorite hikes in the Sierra. There are 3 lakes, they are sequential so you can hike to one and return, or two or all three. Moderate hike, beautiful lakes and the upper lake is great for swimming on a hot day. There is a side trip to a 4th lake, I believe salmon lake. It's an out... More

Found this hike in a pamphlet at the Tahoe visitor center and it looked pretty good. According to the description, it was about 1.5 miles to the first lake and an easy to moderate hike. Well, let me tell ya, this might be easy to moderate for a billy goat! It's extremely rocky and it goes straight up! Also, we... More

This trail is fun because it has as beautiful a view as you'll find just about anywhere in the Sierras, but is easily accessible from I80. It is about 2.5 miles to the first lake (and almost 1000 feet of elevation change!) and about 3 miles to the second and more beautiful lake. We didn't make it to the third... More
