The first half century of Wells Fargo's history coincided with the most explosive growth in transportation and communication technology the world has ever known. Journeys that once took months could be completed in days and messages that took weeks could be sent in minutes. Wells Fargo employed every technological advance to bring new and better services to its banking and express customers. Explore this shrinking world with authentic artifacts, documents, photographs and interactive exhibits including a telegraph connected to other Wells Fargo museums around the country. The museum store features a variety of Wells Fargo branded gifts, collectibles and apparel. Guided tours are available with advanced reservations and admission is always free. A Wells Fargo ATM is conveniently located inside the museum.

Tiny but worthwhile

History lovers, don't miss this small but very interesting -- & FREE -- museum that give you a good sense of the development of Wells Fargo. Three of us found it very interesting.

I found this museum very interesting, especially the connection to Stage Coach robber Black Bart. I recommend researching this robber and his intense dislike of Wells Fargo!

I wouldn't actually call this a History Museum.. I would more call it a building with 2 rooms and some stuff to look at... If I'm not mistaken, this was actually the Termination station for the Pony Express. So if you're into that, or Telegraph things than you should at least stop by and check it out. Plus if I'm... This is an excllent small museum about the development and benefits of overland transportation and shipping in the gold rush days, focusing on the Wells Fargo company. The exhibits inform, and also bring it to life. If you are planning to spend some time in Old Sacramento, this is very worth while.

This free little museum gives visitors a great recap of the history of the Pony Express and stagecoach travel. Invest 20 minutes and see this place-we were sort-of anti-Wells Fargo given the misdeeds of the CEO but the museum is still worth your time.

Take 10 minutes and visit this site. Located in Old Sacramento, this small museum provides a self guided tour around the room and a Wells Fargo ATM.

I'd read that this is a "museum," but it is so small, it hardly qualifies for that title, but then, it's free entry, so how can I complain. There are some artifacts in there and some exhibits that are interesting, but it is basically an average-size room with cases around the walls and some stuff in the middle of the... More

There is not a lot there, but it is the site of the original Wells Fargo Express Company and diagonally across the street from the site of the western terminus of the Pony Express. There are enough things to keep you interested for about 20 minutes. There is more at the main Wells Fargo Bank office on Capitol Mall, including... More

Very small for a 'museum' and the thing that annoyed me most was when I asked questions the lady ignored or gave short answers but the American chap next to me got a long explanation for everything he asked.
