This famous landmark housed the different governors of California, but not all of them. The rumor is that it is haunted and does not want its story told. There are 30 rooms in the building. There were reports of paranormal activities. Governor George Pardee was the first to occupy the mansion in 1903 which at the time was purchased for... More

We were only able to see the outside of this mansion and it was quite impressive, well-kept and unfortunately located at a corner so it was hard to see from the car. Would love to come back when they give tours to the public.

The mansion has been restored to its original grandeur but, as the governor is in residence, there are no public tours. Definitely walk by it to enjoy the exterior architecture and the grounds.

I had a private tour a year ago, as no one else was waiting. I don't think tours are going on now as they are renovating for Brown to move in for his final years as Governor. It was last live in by the Regan's, but only briefly. Great historical stories from the Docent who gave me the tour.

The Governor's Mansion and grounds in Sacramento are very, very beautiful. The parking is often hard to find so give yourself time to drive around to find parking. Spend some time admiring all there is to see. It's really worth the time and the trip.

Full Disclaimer, I know some of the people responsible for the renovation and had access to the building that most people wouldn't get... Having said that, it is beautiful building, that was just renovated and re-occupied by the governor of California, Jerry Brown and his wife Anne, just last December (2015), after having been left to deteriorate for years (since... California governor’s mansion is sited near streets classic 1930-50 well maintained homes. It does not look like a place Arnold Schwarzenegger would have lived when he was governor and it wasn’t he lived in a pen-house in Los Angeles and flew in each morning.

Great place for architecture & history buffs. Sadly, we are losing these Victorian beauties statewide. Bring your sketch book & camera.

Down memory lane. Reagan wouldn't live here and that was smart for that time. Too close to the street but maybe Jerry is hard of hearing now.

Please note that Governor Brown now lives in the mansion and apparently does not appreciate strangers walking around his home so this is NOT open to the public. If you did not know it was the mansion you could miss it. It is downtown in a neighborhood. Other than its old style architecture there is nothing making it stand out.... More
