About
Oakfield Park is one of Donegal’s best-loved attractions. Our award-winning gardens and parklands are the perfect place to spend a wonderful day out in Donegal. Whether you’re on a Wild Atlantic Way adventure or a first-time visitor to Donegal, there’s so much to see and explore. Our beautiful landscape of parkland, woodlands, lakes and formal gardens has everything you need to entertain the whole family. Spend hours exploring the grounds at your leisure: from walled gardens to ponds, lakes, a lakeside Nymphaeum, our hedge maze coming soon, heritage trees and sculptures. Children can make a wish at Oakfield Park’s Faerie tree, while navigating their way through adventures on extensive walks and trails. Our crowning glory is a 4.5km narrow gauge railway with a diesel and steam train operating passenger trips daily. This is a magical way to explore the park’s gardens as the train passes through flower meadows, beautiful woodlands, willow tunnels, oak circles and heritage trees.

The train ride round the grounds. The excellent food in the restaurant. We had to go back for some apple and walnut tart as it looked so delicious.

Visited this magical place with a group from our church. We all loved it - the train ride was fun, the tour of the gardens so interesting and beautiful, and the cafe excellent. The welcoming and friendly staff couldn't have been more helpful. We could have spent much longer there but will definitely return again.

As a regular visitor to OP for years I was so disappointed last Sunday to learn I could not visit the upper gardens anymore unless on a guided tour, which I have done before and do not need to repeat. When I go to visit gardens I want the freedom and flexibility to dander around on my own and not ushered along in a group. I paid for a full price ticket but it should only be half the price as I can only see half the gardens. I believe the issue is damage to the gardens, then may I humbly suggest you put on security frim 12 - 5.00pm instead. Its interesting that there's no problem with damage in the lower garden. I was so disappointed with Oakfield nd until they reverse this policy I will not be back.

Dear Killin, i hope you're well. Thanks so much for choosing to visit Oakfield Park. Unfortunately at the minute the upper gardens are only open by guided tours however this may change in the future. The cost of entry is to keep our gardens to the highest standard on which we are so well known. We do hope you understand and we hope to welcome you back again sometime soon. Kind regards, Caoimhe

I have a seasonal pass for Oakfield Park. It is an amazing park to visit. It is very safe, clean and friendly place for families or anyone to visit. Very peaceful and enjoyable day out. The seasonal ticket is great value for money if you like to walk or get the kids out walking and playing outdoors. The upper garden is open at the weekend via guided tour at 2pm or 4 pm and it is a lovely experience to see the house and gardens. They also have picnic tables to eat outside or you can visit the restaurant and eat indoors or outdoors. The park is also pet friendly.

Poor value for €16. Upper garden not open. (Only open weekends for tours) rediculous. Disappointed. All i ask is that they open the upper garden during the week and let visitors go round it themselves.

Dear 26nualak, I hope you're well. Thanks so much for choosing to visit Oakfield Park. For over a year now, the upper gardens are open by guided tour so the price and situation you refer to is from 2 years ago. The cost of general entry has not been increased in around 5 years despite huge increases in costs in this time. We know we are one of very few places that haven’t increased prices in this time. We also know that traditionally over 90% of visitors stayed in the lower gardens and are happy to do this rather than face price hikes. The model now is set up to maintain our gardens to the highest possible standard on which we are so well known. The reasons you refer to don’t even cover half of the issues we have faced which include road safety at the public road crossing and insurance issues among many others. We do hope you understand, and we hope to welcome you back again sometime soon. Kind regards, David

I had visited once before with adult and children family members. That visit was enjoyable. The children liked the maze, the wishing tree and the train. Today I went by myself. I had a lovely walk through the well maintained park. I enjoyed a snack in Buffers served by a very friendly staff member. Oakfield Park is a tranquil and pleasant place to visit

Kids enjoyed the place but service very slow. Restaurant said it would be an hour to serve food & then told they ran out of hot food. One girl in an ice cream van serving very slowly, she needed someone else to help with the queue.

is it wheelchair accessible and do you have motorised scooters available
David
Raphoe, Ireland7 contributions
Hi Deborah.
We have partial wheelchair access. Our car park has dedicated spaces and the paths to the restaurant and train station are wheelchair friendly. We have a carriage on the train which allows wheelchair access. The lower gardens can be seen from the train journey. The main parts of the upper gardens can be accessed by wheelchair. Being a 100 acre garden there are parts which are not accessible. We do not have motorised scooters available. We have visitors in wheelchairs every week. We hope to see you soon and that you enjoy your visit.
