The castle has the potential to be a lovely spot to visit, but the litter and feaces (human) on the path up to the castle is extremely off-putting, and I wouldn't recommend bringing children as from what I gathered when we got to the top was people drinking in the castle. As we had our toddler with us, we had to turn back straight away. Extremely disappointing.

This palace is very interesting. It's full of story. It's easy to find it but it has a difficult access to it. It's abandoned so be careful. If you have locomotion problems don't go.

Definitely do this if you can! It's super easy to visit (just use Google Maps.. plenty of parking and its RIGHT off the little back road). The history of this castle is on Wikipedia... I believe it was built in the 1500s and saw a few battles. We had the whole thing to ourselves and explored every nook and cranny. Your imagination will run wild.

There's a charm about this place, but it needs a little TLC.
The "path" leading up to it is strewn with rubbish and it's not really that easy for someone with any form of mobility issues to access as there is a steep slope and you need to climb through a gap in the wall to access it.
However, I did really enjoy this, talking to the kids and imagining the things that might have taken place there!

I love this castle. It's got such charm. It would be lovely to see it restored, or made more accessible and safe. A lost treasure in Donegal.

Although this monument is has not yet been restored it's outer shell (and even chimneys!) remain intact. Although the Castle is now deemed inaccessible and possibly unsafe, there is a very rough dirt path across from the painted wall on Sheep Lane which has been worn down over the years. A camera and walking shoes are advised.
It is an important and interesting part of Donegal's history which is worth research.
