A small museum that covers much of the local wild life and and native American culture. It has a good display about the local petroglyphs; this is where you make arrangements to tour the petroglyphs that are located in a canyon on the China Lake Naval Base.

This is a great place to learn about the history of the local Native American tribes that used to be in the area so long ago. The tour at China Lake show more of the petroglyphs. The staff here is so very nice and helpful. I highly recommend a stop here if you are in Ridgecrest.

This is a great little museum in the desert. It is well worth the time to go for both the Native American & petroglyph displays as well as the early mining history displays.

It had been several years since last visiting the Maturango Museum, which reflects the local native peoples, natural history, the geography and relatively more recent history of the Naval Weapons Center base. It has expanded, displays and gift shop, and has a fascinating emphasis on the petroglyphs left by early inhabitants. There is also a sweet desert park with sculpture... More

The out side grounds and building have old items on display as part of the landscape which looks very nice. You walk into a fine gift shop that is very clean and orderly and very happy people to help answer any questions. They have a huge inventory of free information on local points of interest in the Mahave desert, Owens... More

Although more souvenirs than exhibits, the exhibits are interesting, the souvenirs tasteful, the publications and information abundant, and the employees and docents extremely friendly and helpful.

I went to this museum on the way to Death Valley. The Museum is an information center for Death Valley and the Northern Mojave Desert. Good place to stop and get Death Valley information. Also a good place to stop for supplies as there are limited services between Ridgecrest and Death Valley.
