Lava Cap is a very nice winery in the Apple Hill area of California. Part of the El Dorado wine area, the staff is excellent and the property provides a nice place to sit back and enjoy the wines. Overall the wine was average. It is worth visiting for the overall experience, but I would not recommend coming just for... More

We have visited Lava Cap Winery for years, and each visit reveals improvements to the winery and surroundings. Like most of the local wineries, red wines stand superior to the whites in almost all cases. When visiting, a late afternoon tasting gives the opportunity to enjoy the shade and watch the shadows lengthen on the mountains north and east of... More

The patio and sprawling grounds make a beautiful setting to enjoy an afternoon. The wines are good, too.

My husband and I decided to do a day trip to a few wineries in Placerville. Having just moved to California, this was our first time tasting in this area. Lava Cap was an outstanding experience. We felt welcome from the start, as Karen greeted us immediately and chatted with us about where we were from, and explained the tastings... More

My friend and I stumbled onto Lava Cap on their 30th anniversary and it was quite the event. Everyone got free tastings, heart crackers, if you were there at the right time cake, and their was a band. For a last minute venture I really liked it.

Some friends and I went to several vineyards and this was by far our favorite. They are a small winery and the wines were good! The scenery was wonderful and they offer seom great snacks (picnic basket with meats, cheeses and crackers). This was a wonderful stop on the way. Stay for a couple of hours, try several wines $5... We ate a picnic lunch here and tasted the wines. The food was excellent and very good for the price. We got cheese, meat, olives , crackers and fudge all for 20.00. You can also buy your bottle of wine and enjoy your it with your lunch. Since we drove we chose to just bring our bottle back with us.

Set high in altitude and on volcanic soil, Lava Cap is a beautiful place to visit with good wines to taste.
