The grove of trees that the Monarch's frequent is just a few yards south of the entrance to the Pismo North Beach campground on Highway 1. The butterflies are in the trees from November thru Feburary. The butterflies on a warm day are flting everywhere,...More

Except for a few parking spots off the street you have to park on the shoulder of Highway 1 and cross the street to get to the Grove. There are no crosswalks designated and there is a curve just N. of the Grove that makes...More

Even though there weren’t a ton of monarchs flying (although we did see a good number), it’s a great area to walk. Nice paths leading to the beach. Friendly people. Loved the smell of the eucalyptus and the flowering plants along the way. There was...More

It was a little too early in the season to see a lot of butterfly’s. And it was late in the day so the ones there had already landed in a tree for the night. While we saw about 100 butterflies, they looked like leaves...More

We were there early in November so there were less than 1000 butterflies there but the volunteers have telescopes set up for viewing and they are amazing!

We were in the area for a few days so we figured why not? Let's go see the butterflies. While it was still early for the massive group we did get to see some Monarchs fluttering around and clustered in the trees. Here's where this...More

We were in the area and thought we might see the monarchs so we headed the. There's plenty of parking among the road but just be careful if you have to cross the street. The entrance is well posted with trees all over the place....More

We visited the grove at the start of the season so we weren't expecting much. However, there were lots of Monarchs there already and it was amazing to see them. It'll only get better as thousands more migrate to the grove soon.

A great place to visit family friendly and fairly accessible we have to park on the side of the road but the Grove itself is pretty easy to navigate and you can see some wonderful monarch butterflies I'm a geek for that kind of stuff....More

We went to the docent talk at 11:00. The butterflies move around more when it’s warm. The clusters were in the cooler spots as it was a warm day. If it’s a cooler day they’ll move and cluster in a warmer spot.

I believe this is the very beginning of the over-winter season for the migration. There is a Q&A in trip advisor on this subject.
