Hiked & explored this area on 03/02/17. Hiked the McCallum Trail to the beautiful oasis. Then hiked up to the Vista to experience a gorgeous view of the surrounding area...360 degrees! Finally hiked the Moon Country Trail & then returned to the Visitors Center. Be sure to take plenty of water, wear a hat & hiking boots! Wonderful Experience!! I... More

A wonderful palm oasis rises unexpectedly out of the desert. A concentration of large, native palms, plus the San Andreas Fault, a nice little visitor center, multiple trails, and interesting birds and fishes equals a fascinating visit. The visitor experience would be improved with better trail maps and trail signs, and improved parking facilities.

This was my least favorite hiking/park in the area. It's OK, they have well marked paths, but there's much better areas around that provide better views.

It was a gray day so we headed out here. What a beautiful way to spend the day. Very well organized little visitor's centre. Great walk even with small kids. Definitely worth your time!

I took the round trip to McCallum's pond. I had read the reviews but was still surprised by the size of the palms, the fish in the pond, the stark beauty of the mountains and desert. As a non-hiker, I was also surprised that I was walking through it all instead of driving by. February late afternoon weather was perfect,... More

Due to the recent rains in California, the Coachella Valley Preserve now features a pale green carpet covers most of the hillsides (Feb. 2017). Admission is by voluntary donation. I'd suggest coming during a weekday or early, if possible, because the small parking lot becomes filled by 10 a.m. on weekends when families enjoy hiking on well marked trails. For... More

This is a true gem in the desert. The hiking path is moderate so most ages can traverse without difficulty. Get to the back and ...surprise

This is a wonderful place, especially for those who don't want to have an expedition but still would like to hike in the Mohave. Close to La Quinta, a morning trip is possible with several easy hikes as well as a few tougher ones. The Palm Oasises are beautiful. Might be too hot in summer. Bring water.

My husband and I have visited Palm Springs many times but somehow we overlooked this gem. A local friend recommended Coachella Valley Wildlife Preserve and it became one of the highlights of this most recent trip to Southern California. The oasis and desert are beautiful, the trails first rate, and the huge California Fan Palms provide a gorgeous contrast to... More

this is a wonderful, hike/stroll for all to do. Kids would love it as adults too. on a hot day the oasis of palms and cool ponds is very refreshing. Pack a picnic as areas to sit and enjoy beauty that this FREE adventure has to offer.
