I took the round trip to McCallum's pond. I had read the reviews but was still surprised by the size of the palms, the fish in the pond, the stark beauty of the mountains and desert. As a non-hiker, I was also surprised that I was walking through it all instead of driving by. February late afternoon weather was perfect,... More

Due to the recent rains in California, the Coachella Valley Preserve now features a pale green carpet covers most of the hillsides (Feb. 2017). Admission is by voluntary donation. I'd suggest coming during a weekday or early, if possible, because the small parking lot becomes filled by 10 a.m. on weekends when families enjoy hiking on well marked trails. For... More

This is a true gem in the desert. The hiking path is moderate so most ages can traverse without difficulty. Get to the back and ...surprise

This is a wonderful place, especially for those who don't want to have an expedition but still would like to hike in the Mohave. Close to La Quinta, a morning trip is possible with several easy hikes as well as a few tougher ones. The Palm Oasises are beautiful. Might be too hot in summer. Bring water.

My husband and I have visited Palm Springs many times but somehow we overlooked this gem. A local friend recommended Coachella Valley Wildlife Preserve and it became one of the highlights of this most recent trip to Southern California. The oasis and desert are beautiful, the trails first rate, and the huge California Fan Palms provide a gorgeous contrast to... More

this is a wonderful, hike/stroll for all to do. Kids would love it as adults too. on a hot day the oasis of palms and cool ponds is very refreshing. Pack a picnic as areas to sit and enjoy beauty that this FREE adventure has to offer.

Compared to the mountains and pine trees back home, this was a great new desert experience. I loved being able to walk through the oasis, not just around it. Too bad they don't charge an admission and use the money to improve things a bit. It was pretty rough with lots of mess and missing signs etc. which did add... More

When you see an oasis it is often the home of a earthquake fault. The oasis is no exception. See groves of palms. Walk the path of the San Andreas fault. Lots of beauty and picture taking opportunities. Brink your own water

We went to the pond and back. It was perfect for an easy level walk. It's surprisingly free and they even gave us waters as we weren't prepared. They do take donations though. We did 2 miles but there are much longer trails. I enjoyed the brochure that gives you information that correlates with marked spots on trail. It was... More

We love visiting the Coachella Valley Preserve whenever we come to Palm Springs. The trails are great for walkers who must avoid elevation as well as for those who want more of a challenge. (For us, the walk to McCallum Pond--with the addition of a short uphill spur to a lovely vista--was just right.) All the the trails are very... More
