The Ojai Valley Museum highlights the history, art and culture of the valley through museum exhibitions, programs and events. Housed in a National Register Building (originally the St. Thomas Acquinas Church) the museum includes semi-permanent history exhibits, a Sespe Wilderness diorama, highlights from the permanent art collection, and a Chumash Interpretive Garden. Four major original exhibitions are mounted each year, alternating between history and art subjects. A museum gift shop featuring books, gift items as well as locally produced cards and postcards. A tourist information office is included on the SE corner of the building. It is staffed 7 days a week with brochures, maps and magazines to help you make the most of your trip to Ojai. Regular events include 10:30am Saturday historic walking tours of downtown(no tours in August, September or on Ojai Day) for only $7 which includes museum admission and Town Talks on a wide variety of subjects (typically 3rd Sundays at 4:30-6pm) for $5. Check website for most up to date schedule of Town Talks.

Cool little museum

A good way to get some history on the area and understand how it came to be. The gift shop has some nice Ojai souvenirs as well.

I learned some interesting facts about local people instrumental to the development of the area whom I never knew about and whose contributions deserve to be celebrated. For a small town, there's some important information here.

The volunteer we encountered (David) had been a local resident for 77 years. He knew a lot of the history by heart. Museum is very small, but had nice displays about the town's founding, its name change and the people behind it all. Nice diorama in the back. Many of the displays you were invited to touch. Nice little book... More

Great collection of historical artifacts -- appreciated the focus on American Indians. There is also information about the settlers from NY state who helped to establish the town.

I only wish I had longer when I was there, which most people do, but I get to go back luckily. If you are into history at all you will be Happy You went.

This museum has a few exhibits explaining the origins of the city of Ojai. Other than those, though, there is nothing much beyond a few private collections from locals that include things like glass dishes, insect sprayers, and Rat Pack memorabilia. It would be nice to see the museum operators spend some time obtaining some really beautiful and memorable art... More

Theoddore Gall's Da Vincis dream was a dream that captured me inside the gallery on a hot Ojai afternoon.

This converted former chapel is now the museum of the Ojai Valley. It has nice permanent exhibits in one large room depicting the history of the Chumash people in the region, the Mexican ranchero period, and then the history of the town that we know today as Ojai (former name: Nordhoff). The museum also pays special tribute to Edward Libbey,... More

The history of Ojai is fascinating. I learned a lot about the native people (Chumash) as well as the people who contributed to the farming and the development of the community and tourism. It was interesting to see photos and read about the early hotels, local artists and the evolution of the community.

This is a small museum with some interesting history about Ojai. You could take children here. Once you've seen it, there might not be much motivation to return.
