If you want to get away from all the craziness in the world, this is the adventure to take. A simple getaway for a group of guys and their families (kids) decided to charter a fishing trip. We ended up on the Pronto with Captain Ernie and his deckhand Bryan. They were fantastic: Fun, Knowledgeable, Helpful, and Entertaining. Our group was half experienced fishermen, while the others knew NOTHING. Actually, had never been fishing before! Captain Ernie and Bryan took care of us all. We learned, laughed and had a blast. We ALL caught Rockfish, Bass, and the young boys even caught a shark!!!! The trip was amazing. Not only do I recommend this experience, I am already planning a second trip with Captain Ernie and Bryan. My kids loved it and can’t wait to return! My friends and their families enjoyed a day away from the madness of this pandemic, work and school. It’s was exciting, fun, and worth every dime. AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!! …

Great local place for a quick half day of rockfish fishing. Clean boats, good bait and would also be a good place to launch a private boat. Nothing huge or world records to be had, but some solid rockfish to be had and some great little places for happy hour when you get back. Monday, oyster special upstairs at the Lighthouse are pretty fresh and worthy of a trip alone. Clean, family friendly operation with tons of free parking on the other side of the train tracks.…

This was my first time ocean fishing (my husband has been a couple of times), so I didn't know if I'd like the experience. I was so glad we went! The crew were amazing (Dave, Jolene & Chris) and the boat was very clean. Chris showed everyone how to operate the reels and bait the hooks. He also shared some great tips about how to bait the hooks and when to strike and reel in our lines. As we were fishing, Jolene came around the deck, helping everyone with tips and any assistance they needed. She was a huge help to me, showing me how to hold the rod while I was fishing and also how to hold it when reeling it in. After her 'tutorial' I caught about 10 fish! The drama came as we were enjoying the day and a gentleman fainted (found out today that he is okay), but his wife said he had had a massive heart attack several years ago and she feared he was having another heart attack. The crew quickly jumped into action. Jolene performed CPR and the gentleman regained consciousness. The captain immediately reported the emergency and we headed back to the harbor. A lifeguard boat met us half way and two paramedics boarded and tended to him until we reached the harbor where an ambulance was waiting and transported him to the hospital. His wife called the Center last night to report the diagnosis was dehydration. Thankfully that was all. At the end of the day, we had a memorable experience--fun but dramatic. I can't stress how amazing and professional the crew was on this trip. We WILL return for another trip, but hopefully it will be less eventful.…

In Carlsbad on vacation, decided to take my twin 9 year old boys fishing in the ocean on a whim. I'm not a Fishing/Outdoorsy guy but it sounded really fun. The Chubasco 2 looked like an affordable, relaxing way to spend the day fishing, and it looked like they catered to newbies like myself. The Good: Good fishing boat. Moderately clean. Very nice Captain and Deckhands. Easy to rent rods/reels and they have plenty of bait on board. Equipment seems good and effective (I really have no idea). The fishing license process was simple. Boat left on time at 10am. 60 minute taxi out to the fishing grounds using fish finder technology. Galley serves food but didn't look all that appetizing / interesting. The fishing was fun. Really serves a good purpose for all levels of fisherman. My kids and I got a good amount of attention until we became self sufficient. Lots of fish were caught. After we fished, the deckhands offered to cut/filet and save the catch for each party and they handled the duties en route back to the dock. The Bad. Very little. Only thing is that on our day we fished with 40 other people which was too damn many. All the spots around the boat were crowded and it makes it easy for lines to get tangled. If they reduced the # of spots by 5-10, it would be a huge help. 40 is just too many to fish with on that size boat. Other then that, we had a really great time. We tipped the deckhands at the end even though we didn't take home any filet'd fish but we all caught some cool stuff and learned about how the fishing works at 300" deep.…
