We debated driving to SD and are happy we took the Coaster train instead. Board it at the Oceanside transit hub. Make sure you're on the correct platform. It's an easy one hour scenic trip with many departure times. We bought round trip tickets from a machine in Oceanside, costing us $6.50 a piece. For some reason our chip credit card didn't work so we resorted to cash. We chose to get off at Old Town, had breakfast and then rode the hop on, hop off trolly around San Diego. From the upper-level of our train car we had spectacular views out of both sides of the car. Most of the riders were commuters, plugged into their phones and laptops. Tnere were empty seats at 7:40 am and about 4:30 pm. Nice way to see a few small towns between Oceanside and San Diego. Get a schedule from the CA welcome center and enjoy the ride!…
