Why the funny name? Go in there and find out. They have a sheet inside that tells you all the facts about this 19th century saloon. The furnishings (tables, stove, bar) are all original. They still use gaslighting! Marvel at the memorabilia on display. Have...More

The saloon is small and dark, but it has lots of interesting artifacts around it. There is an old pot-bellied stove in the corner that was the only source of heat until 1989. And there are business cards all over the ceiling that look burned,...More

Every time we come to Jack London Square we have to stop at this place. It's old, crooked, small and filled with history. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor is small but there is so much to see and read along the walls and...More

This place has a lot of history. It has been here since the 1880s. Jack London is supposed to have been a regular. Being near the docks and the ferry terminal it was the place to have your first or last drink, depending on which...More

If you are looking for a cold one, this the place to stop. it is rich in character, and history. The floor and bar stools are sitting at a slant. It hasn't changed, period. No lap tops are allowed. They may enforce the no cell...More

First, I thought it's a tourist trap attracting customers with some "fake" historical value, but it's actually indeed a historic place. And it is connected to the Oakland history in many ways, so it is worth a visit. It's a nice place to have a...More

The Venue is tiny yet has a very cool vibe. The bar has a 45 degree slant because of the earthquake. Every item in the bar has a story. Great place to spend a hour having a conversation about Oakland's history

I love coming to this spot. I love the historic nature of the bar and all the cool things inside. Watch your step though cause the floor is a little slanted. The beers are really great and the bartenders are even better. On warm days,...More

We were in Oakland in the rain, so we stepped into the Saloon. The floor is uneven and slanted. The room is tiny, and the bar is original from the 1800's. Sitting down with an Irish coffee in this place is like traveling back in...More
