This was once known as ExplorOcean in Balboa Fun Zone. It has recently been merged with Discovery Cube and renamed Discovery Cube's OceanQuest. Since my boys love Discovery Cube LA and even love Discovery Cube OC more, we wanted to give it a try. We went on a summer weekday and traffic was pretty bad and so was parking. All... More

I think kids of any age can find it amazing. We took a 1 and 3 year old boys. They had a blast. it was a great way to spend a couple of hours right after their naps.

Someone with a lot of funding and a dream built ExplorOcean. They meant well, but it just does not excite. Sorry, I'm a local and I had high hopes for the place. Personally, I wish they would replace everything with the old Merry-go-round, bumper cars, and an arcade.

I can't say enough about the wonderful time our first graders had here. The staff was so helpful and my students learned so much. I couldn't believe all the things we got to experience for the price. We launched soda bottle rockets, went on a harbor cruise, learned about Biolumenescence, caught crabs, had lunch in the park, and did a... More

Sounds like a nice idea for school-aged kids, especially since I'm involved in environmental education myself, but you should probably go elsewhere if you are part of the general public or have young kids. On a weekday I took about 40 minutes to drive up here with my toddler, paid the meter to park nearby, and waited patiently until 11:00... More

To say I'm not a fan of this place is an understatement. This museum has completely destroyed our quirky little town and replaced the Fun Zone with a museum that no one really wants to go to. We've lost the Bumper Cars, Scary Dark Ride, Carousel, and they are slowly but surely booting out family owned businesses (many of which... More

We didn't visit the center (there's a fee) but went to the free Saturday workshop. I took my daughters (8, 10 yo) and friends ( 11, 8, & 7 yo) and they had a blast learn STEM. The projects were awesome and the kids thoroughly enjoyed their couple of hours doing different stations. They wanted to stay longer but sadly... More

Extremely disappointed in how they handled a class that my kids attended. Staff was rude and extremely unhelpful. Follow up email from the staff was disappointing as well. Parents avoid.

I highly doubt this is the "nation’s premiere ocean literacy center" as indicated in their description. The place is kind of small and dirty. The touch tank was cool and the staff were nice and friendly. Bathrooms were gross, hold it if you can. I suppose its a great place to go if your trying to kill time (but why... More

Thank you for your feedback. We thrive on educating children the 7 ocean literacy principles through hands-on activities. Children of all ages enjoy our field trips, events, and summer camps. The exciting new attractions and some of the old rides, like the Ferris Wheel, put the "fun" back in the Fun Zone. The new plans combined with our passion will... More
