If you're claustrophobic this likely isn't for you. Having said that I did have a couple of episodes of MILD anxiety but I'm really glad I did this tour. The caverns are amazing/spectacular and you will get quite a leg work out while you're at it. Participants are warned of the conditions in the Caverns (stairs, closed in areas etc)... More

The underground caverns are by tour only. There are many stairs and narrow passages throughout. So cool seeing the formations growing from the ceiling and floor.stalagtites and stalagmites Amazing to see the formations grown from springs and a slow drip. Angel wings and vegetables are two of the many named ones. Careful when the lights go out and total darkness. It's... More

We stopped at Mercer Cavern after going to Moaning Cavern. They're within about 10 miles of each other so it's easy to hit both in one day. Mercer cave was pretty interesting with many of the same formations as Moaning Cavern, but Mercer it's a lot more closed in as opposed to the very open and large Moaning Cavern. The... More

Have visited the other two caverns and decided it was time to visit the third one. The benefits is that it is only one mile from Murphy's and it give a tour every hour on the half-hour. So we arrived just as one tour was going in and purchased tickets and went back to Murphy's until our tour time. This... More

Our guide was very personable and informative. The stories and education he provided made the tour a pleasure. Most people can handle the physical piece of the tour, I felt it was easier to go up the 200+ steps than it was to go down. Parts were quite steep and you had to be careful not to bang your head... Even if you are afraid of caves, you have to go to see the beauty of this cavern. Additionally, it is a great escape from the summer heat! I would take kids who are behaved and can handle the climbing up and down stairs with minimal supervision. My daughter was 8 and I think she could have gone as young... More

First of all, this is not your average boring cave tour. You go way down 16 stories on very narrow wooden stairs and back UP on very narrow wooden stairs ducking and turning sideways to fit. Don't bring small children or ANY babies, its not the place for them -- too hard. I was scared going down and huffing going... More

Went to Mercer Caverns because a local told us that it is prettier than the other caverns. A bit cheaper to. We had an awesome time. My 8 year old son still talks about the trip. My 4 year old loved it too. She was a bit tired from all of the stairs.

They do a guided tour that takes about 45 minutes. The views are great and the tour guides give tons of information. I do warm you that if you get claustrophobic this place may be a little close. I am and panicked a couple times due to some rocks being so close to the stairs. They also offer "gem panning"... More
