The museum is well curated, located within the national historic site, close to Fisherman's Wharf. Give yourself about 1/2 hour to view and read through the history.

We went to the customs house the the nearby museum. I was able to place the history of Monterey within a a timeline of American history quite nicely. Personally love the display in the customs house. The docent was charming and knowledgeable.
