The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Malibu
The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great to visit such a famous location, just a short distance from LA.
Its a pier so as much as it was nice, it wasn't particularly special or different to most other piers. There are a few places to eat and a shop. The views are nice.

No there there. We didn’t find a town. Lots of dangerous fast traffic on coast highway. Had a terrible diner at Geoffrey’s. Can’t see the beach or ocean due to a wall of beach houses.

I visited here yesterday morning. It was very well maintained and has one souvenier shop and one restaurant at the end. Many fishers line the pier throughout the day. Easily accessible from the main road and free parking nearby. A jack-in-the-box just outside the main entrance too.

It’s lovely. I can’t say too much for friendliness but I did enjoy my stay.
The food was decent and the view is calming and beautiful. Serenity

This pier is monopolized by Malibu Farm. They have a restaurant at the start of the pier and at the end. The pier is free to go out on, you don’t have to eat there, but there are no other food options. There is a bait place with the cafe at the end and I did see a lot of people fishing. It is a good place for pictures of the Malibu coastline, but if you want to eat you only have two options.

Very well kept pier, particularly the public restrooms at the far end! A selection of cafes and shops are available, though perhaps unsurprisingly the eateries are on the pricey side. The settings for eating are certainly lovely, but even if you were just to walk from one end to the other, it's worthwhile.

The Malibu Pier was very lowkey with some eateries and a quaint shop at the end. My wife didn't want to stop and walk it but I convinced her too and she was really glad. We didn't buy anything, just walked and hung out for a while.

We visited this place on our way to San Francisco. Parking was not easily available but we got parking space for $15.
The beach is clean and we walked all the way to the front to enjoy the scenery. The ocean looked clean and we some surfers in the water. We noted a number of lifeguard stations on the beach.
The cafes there offered a variety of food but we decided to have lunch at our next stop in Santa Barbara.
Nice place to stop. The restrooms were averagely clean.

Great Pier! Was there for Christmas. The store at the end of the pier, The Ranch at Malibu Pier, doesn't have prices and the lady wont tell you how much spent. I didn't realize to ask and bought a $68 Malibu tee shirt. No returns or exchanges. Just Be AWARE.

We spent part of a sunny afternoon here. Parking is available. Restaurants, shops, fishing, views. Surfers were off to the west. It is a good place for photos and to walk around for an hour or two.

How fast does parking fill up? Time of day until you are out of options?

We got a street spot relatively close on a Friday night around 6pm but then couldn't find anything and the lot for the pier was full on Saturday morning around 10:30am. Same thing for early Sunday morning.

Hi everyone, I will be visiting Santa Monica in June and we are planning on taking the bus along to Malibu for the day. As we will only be there for the day we don't want to waste any time so I would appreciate if anyone could recommend the nicest beach to visit or anywhere nice in Malibu that we could go? Also my trip won't be complete without a typical tourist pic beside the Malibu "27 Miles of Scenic Beauty" welcome sign, does anyone know where this sign is or which beach it is closest to? I will appreciate any help! :)

There is a parking lot that fills up fast next to the pier, and the parking ranges from 10 to 20 dollars. There is also one across PCH next to the Malibu Inn/Casa Escobar. Parking along PCH is free but hard to find.
Is there commercial parking near by

There is a commercial parking lot nearby. If you are at the right place at the right time, you may be able to find on-street parking along the Pacific Coast Highway near the pier.

Sorry, not something I can help with - we were pretty much there for a very limited time on our way to LAX. The other reviewers' advice sounds good though
