Major opera stars and great main stage artists, fresh new take on many old stories bring life and new imagination to these beloved stories. LA Opera creates magic. Worth the money. We went to see the final performance of The Tales of Hoffman under the baton of Placido Domingo. The production was magical. The scenery, the costumes and the stagecraft were all first class. The singing and acting did not disappoint. The orchestra responded to the challenges set by Maestro Domingo, who is the Opera's Music Director. Is there anything he... More

The LA Opera is surprising for those of us who have been at the Met, San Francisco, and Seattle, and Portland Opera. In fact, this opera is a bargain in a wonderful venue. I can't believe how well we did! We saw Placido Domingo conducting - and he was phenomenal!! We saw Victorio Grigolo and Diana Damrau, and we had... More

We recently saw a splendid production of Wagner's "Salome" and even from a far upstairs balcony, it was such a treat. The LA Opera is located inside Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the place where Oscar Ceremonies were being held till not a long ago. One can still imagine all the glamorous stars walking through the same doors that you walk through.... More

We were in town to attend two performances, Salome and Abduction From the Seraglio. The singing was good, but not great. Salome was quite shrill at times and the orchestra frequently covered the voices. The ladies room was totally inadequate to the number of people trying to use it. Totally inexcusable. Some of the parking garage attendants were downright rude.... More

I have attended performances at LA Opera many, many times, but my recent experience stands out. The recent LA Opera production of "Abduction From The Seraglia", by Mozart was phenomenal. Staging this classic opera on The Orient Express circa 1920's was a brilliant idea. It gave the story a more contemporary vibe, and with the lyrics in German and the... More

Of the three major California opera companies, Los Angeles Opera is the youngest. Under the leadership of Placido Domingo, the company has offered standard repertory with international stars. But what has interested me is its championing of large-scale contemporary opera, such as a grand revival of Corigliano's "The Ghosts of Versailles" a few seasons back. Recently we took in its... As I expected, the production values weren't on a par with SF Opera and the Met, but the music is excellent. Worth a trip.

LA Opera is one of the big players in opera in the US. I highly recommend going if you like opera. They get big-name performers, as well as wonderful lesser known singers. They do both modern and traditional productions. The house itself is beautiful and comfortable. There are no center aisles, but there is ample leg room for people with... More

I didn't know what to expect with a classic play by Shakespeare as an opera. I learned that Verdi's Macbeth is a must see for everyone. Of course, the opera was made all that much better by Maestro James Conlan with the baton and Placid Domingo with the lead role of Macbeth. The costumes for the witches/demons and their portrayal...
