Description:

Melrose Avenue's Groundlings have been practicing their high-octane brand...

Melrose Avenue's Groundlings have been practicing their high-octane brand of anything-goes improvisation for nearly three decades. Audiences know the group for their wacky sketch comedy and lightning audience participation rounds, but for aspiring comedians and writers it's the Groundlings School that's the real draw. With courses in beginning and advanced improv, sketch and monologue comedy, the school has trained several generations of young wits. Its alumni includes a laundry list of "SNL"-ers (Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney, Will Ferrell, Laraine Newman), Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson and Emmy-winning "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow. The theatre was also the home of Paul Reubens' early, raunchier version of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." With pristine standards and a pool of hundreds of talented newcomers to draw from, the troupe offers some of the quickest, cleverest improv in town, cozily presented in their own 100-seat theater.

We had the most wonderful evening real entertainment well worth going. We will go again. It's a small venue and seating is first come first served but one should book in advance. We laughed the whole time. Brilliant well done guys.

This was so bad we left at intermission. I expect improv to be a little hit or miss but every skit was a miss. I hate to post a negative review ever but it was just not funny. The theater is nice and the musicians playing between sets were good.

As an improviser, i love all kinds of improv. Yes, I even love bad improv but I prefer to love good improv. When I have the opportunity, I like to treat myself to VERY GOOD improv and the show we saw at the Groundlings Theatre certainly qualifies as "very good improv." We caught "Cooking With Gas," their "short form" show... More

Such a great experience coming to the Groundlings Theatre on Melrose Avenue with its interesting shops. The theatre is casual and the tickets are way cheap. That being said, it is a fun time and well worth it! They were so funny the entire time I find it unbelievable how they think up new material constantly. Definitely worth doing.

Went to the late 10pm show and laughed from start to finish. Great improv, quick on their feet, and funny as hell. Really enjoyed the show.

Wonderful evening watching the cast of the Groundlings. Each skit was funny and they even did a little bit of improv. Many members of Saturday Night Live got there start here. Our 19 year old son was brought on stage to participate in a skit. It was a lot of fun. Seating is not assigned, so get in line early.

As a fan of Improv and stand up comedy, The Groundlings had been one of those destinations that I've always wanted to visit growing up. Now that I've lived in LA for several years I can say I have seen many many shows at The Groundlings. They are always hilarious and well acted, written, and delivered. Nanoor is the box... More

We come to see the Groundljngs every time we're in town. The shows are always funny and never the same show twice. Small theater makes for an intimate setting. Some audience input for improv.

We don't come from a huge metro area, so it was nice to see some live comedy. We had a great time. There was some talent in that room, too. Beware, there is a small chance that it could become interactive a tiny bit!! We had fun after the show and at breakfast the next day talking about the skits... More

We were able to see Cooking with Gas and it was hilarious. I absolutely loved the theatre and the actors/comedians are outstanding. This is our favorite thing that we did while in LA and I cant recommend it highly enough!
