You have to do it. The best little hike in LA. We parked at the bottom and walked the street up to the hiking area. We stayed on the trails as requested and were able to get some of the best shots of the Hollywood sign. We don't suggest the hike from the observatory because you see the back of the sign. There was a small hill you could walk up that got you a perfect tourist shot!!! Hot day, bring water. The houses there in the Hollywood Hills have such character. Our favorite was the one that had the garage painted like a bookshelf. Go have fun. Don't forget to leave no trace and don't be a bother to the neighbors.…

The Sign is visible from afar, seeing it from a good viewpoint is better than up close, as it is 45 feet high (13.7 meters) when you are close to it you will not be able to view it. There are few locations that are considered a Hollywood Sign viewpoint including the Griffith Observatory, the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue…etc. If you insist on getting close to the Sign you have to know that it is illegal to come close to the Sign except from behind, make sure to find the best trail and follow the legal trail, and do not wander around, finally the hike is difficult so prepare yourself with good hiking shoes and lots of drinking water.…

One of the most world wide famous signs and icons of all time! The hike to the top where the sign is challenging. You should be in decent shape and prepared to do a real legit difficult hike. If you guy in the summer you need to have sunblock, water, stay hydrated and all. If you make it to the top the view is incredible and you feel all of the history of Hollywood and LA looking down at the city. Definitely get a selfie up top it is worth it! Most people only stop 1/2 way or even less and give up once they realize how difficult it is.…

Tried to get as close as we could. Enter Lake Hollywood Park in your GPS. This took us all the way up the hills, through residential area to a very small parking area. There you can hike pretty close. The letters are 45 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Pretty impresive.
