I came here because of the reviews, expecting a TON of rock choices. There were definitely some neat fossils, rocks, and minerals, but not as many as I was expecting since it is a rock & gift shop. Gift shop noted, there was also a selection of jewelry, books, and other local goods. So, yeah, I guess since it's a Rock & Gift, it's definitely pretty equal on both parts. I am more of a rockhound, though, so I aways prefer more rocks.

I usually buy rocks from a store in Springdale, Utah but I am in Lone Pine this time. This store has a good collection of rocks. They have books, moccasins and other things for sale. The prices seem a little high from what I have seen in Utah but I could be wrong. But, you can buy the rocks in CA; you do not have to go all the way to Utah.

Tremendous amount of inventory and reasonable prices. The usual fare of t-shirts and the like. You can also get fossils and native American jewelry and moccasins. Stop in if in Lone Pine.

I've often wanted to stop here as I'm an amateur rock hound and am more than glad to stop at any "rock shop" I find. So, on our last Labor Day (2017) trip, we decided to stop here and take a look around. This ended up being something of a mixed review. Let me outline what we found: 1. The rock and mineral shop part is actually pretty extensive. I'll give this part of the store five stars. The have rough materials, uncut geodes, tumbling supplies, a small amount of prospecting supplies, as well as a large variety of local and world-wide specimens. They have a large 14 or 18 inch saw as well as I think they'll cut a geode for you (if you purchase one of theirs). It's much more extensive than one would expect to find. The local minerals are interesting as well. If you're a collector or rockhound, or just like rocks, this is a pretty solid store. 2. Gifts and such. Three stars. True to its name, this is also a gift shop with all the standard gifts and kitschy items you'd expect to find, from local music CDs, historical books, t-shirts, "moccasins", jewelry and other assorted items. Standard stuff although I did pickup a funny Mt Whitney t-shirt. 3. Staff. One Star. Don't expect any level of customer service here other than taking your money. There were only two parties in the shop when we dropped in and that includes us. No greeting when we walked in. No offer to help find anything even though i was going through their rock and mineral supplies and specimens pretty thoroughly, not event a smile when I came to the counter to pay for the t-shirt. Literally, the lady behind the counter just stared at me until i said, "I'll take this". She promptly ran the purchase on the registered, stated the amount and gave me change. No friendliness, no rudeness, no animosity, no personality. They treated the other party with the same non-level of customer service. Frankly, I would have been happier with the self-serve checkout stands like you find at other stores. That level of customer service just deserves a Trip Advisor review. It is unfortunate, as the rock and mineral side of the store was really impressive. I would have purchased some of their more expensive items had someone bothered to offer to show me any of them. Most of their best was locked in glass display cabinets so you couldn't see a price tag. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.
