A smokey experience

Besides the hell valley, do take troll along the various footpaths, one leads to a smokey crater pond which is really cool.

A very scenic hike at a natural attraction and we'd agree with all the positive comments before us. The start of the suggested route is very well paved and toddler friendly but on route to the natural foot bath, the path gets quite steep very quickly. We made the mistake of bringing our stroller with us and had to turn... More

We were a bit disappointed that the nature foot bath is closed until further notice due to recent eruption. Anyway we did enjoy the breathtaking display of hot steam vents.

Was there beginning of May. There is a lot of walking along the trail so it is better to wear suitable walking shoes. Put on a good pair of sunglasses when it is bright. It was a good walk. Unfortunately, the footbath soaking section was closed when we were there. The park management might want to consider putting up signs... More

It is about 1.5 hour train ride from Sapporo to Noboribetsu. Jigokudani is a unique, picturesque and somewhat mysterious landscape. The area smells strongly of sulphur. There are several walking trails to see the hot springs in different spots. Lots of walking, depending on how much you would like to explore. We spent several hours here. Level of difficulty: would... More

The main attraction of Noboribetsu where it attracts many tourists every day. If you have time, hike around the hill to see the other side of the valley.

Smell of sulfur, yellow hot spring and mountains, steam make you dream of hell. A 10 minutes walking around this hell valley can give you a unforgettable experience. It is quite easy to walk and enjoy unless you have a baby.

The only natural attraction in Noboribetsu, good for an hour hiking, free of charge. Nice landscape but not amazing. Only gas emitted from the geyers. Onoyuma pool is worth the hike over the hill for a pictorial photo.

It's the most famous attraction in this small town. Actually not much you can do in this town, so I bet this is a place everyone would go. Within a walking distance from the main street of it. The landscape is very unique. But a bit smelly to some people. You can also walk around there in the evening.

Great introduction to sulphur hot springs. The smell is not so bad and you don't smell it after a while. It snowed while we were there so it was really beautiful. Had a bit of problem finding it initially as the signs were not really clear but found it with google maps. Just drive in past the town and you... More
