We thought this hot springs area was a great place to visit and you will get some nice photos of the steam coming up. The sulfur smell is not too bad.

Noboribetsu Jigokudani is a scenic area in Noboribetsu, where you can experience and see the geothermal activities upfront.

The sulfur smell is overwhelmed and you could see the smoke/steam flowing out from the hot spring. The track to the foot spa is the one we enjoyed most as the natural hot spring is "pretty hot" and yet you feel really good after a...More

Jigokudani lies along the fabled "Ring of Fire" - it is one of several areas of intense volcanic activity. You get to see the 1,476 foot crater and surrounding fumaroles and mineral springs. The walks are fairly easy and the area is well worth exploring.

A must visit if you come to Noboribetsu area. There are several short trails, easy walk to the lookouts. Their sulfer hot springs are amazing and appealing to look at. For tourists or those who have limited time, 1-2 hours would be sufficient to explore...More

Great views and nice trails. I recommend hiking up to the foot baths and Oyunuma pond. It’s not very far and worth the effort.

It's less than a km and the walk is through the shopping street. It probably take 15 min.

I stayed at Muroran and drove there. I think it is a better option. Your length of stay at Noboribetsu, Lake Toya and Muroran become very flexible.
