This museum is totally free and contains an interesting and diverse collection that has wide appeal. We spent a couple of hours there and had a great time. Even the young children enjoyed it.

As other reviewers have noted, this museum crams a large amount of historical information, and many artifacts, into a compact museum. It is well organized by theme and/or area (mining, ranching, Native Americans etc) which makes it easy to tour and actually learn something. Docents...More

A great museum with a friendly staff. There are many artifacts from the mining days, many guns from gun slingers, and a room with all the old movie stars from cowboy movies that were filmed there.

This museum recently expanded and has several rooms filled with memorabilia from the wild west days and especially the early days of western movies. Many old westerns were filmed in Old Kernville and they show movies and have popcorn on weekends in season. The tenders...More

We had visited Kernville primarily because it was where my mother used to vacation with her family in the 1920's, from Los Angeles. Getting here was a very windy and slow drive, and it didn't seem to me there was much here, other than a...More

This place is definitely worth a stop for families! Our 8-year-old daughter loves this museum because of the hands-on approach. Lots of historical information about the area, including mining, utilities, dam, and an in-depth movie star insight to the region. Half of the museum is...More
